Canterbury Avalanche Response Exercise

Meeting time at Hornby Police station

6.30am 

We are needing to be aMt Cheesman lower lodge at 9am for briefing.

The Canterbury Avalanche Response Exercise will be held on Saturday near Mt Cheeseman Ski Area.  All participants are to arrive at Texas Flat by 0900hrs to sign in.  There will be an exercise briefing and helicopter safety briefing before the exercise commences.  The exercise will follow the avalanche response plan as realistically as possible, including an activation message to the whole group.  Please ensure that there is someone from your organisation who is able to reply to this message with the following information;  Your organisations name/location,  a contact number, a realistic time available:  the number of responders available, the ASCs name and/or team leaders name, and other  responders names.  Also identify anyone that has advanced medical training.

There will be more details regarding the exercise sent to you shortly.  To assist with catering please send one reply from you organisation with the number of people attending the exercise.

 

We have approx 5 hours of flight time sponsored by NZSAR

Team Gear:

5x RAB alpine tents 2 man

2x Nemo Dagger 3 man tents

2x Bothy bag

Snow anchors /stakes

Heli tac bag and stretcher plus face shield

1x Inreach sat tracker

6x radios at this stage with mics

Rope equipment for raise and lower of 100m pitches

Avalanche Marking- flags

Spray paint- Heli LZ etc

Wind indicator- wand, smoke bombs and marker spray can

First aid, including hypothermia treatment/ Body bags and glad wrap

Maps of the area printed in A4 in waterproof paper

 

Personal Gear:

Personal 24hr ACR pack check sheet on your dashboard to print and check off

ACR crew attending must be able to:

  1. Move over snow terrain ( touring skis, split board etc)
  2. Be selfsufficient for 24 hours ( food, water, shelter etc) IN SNOW!!
  3. Carry avalanche equipment, min Probe, shovel, transiever
  4. Navigation gear and compass or GPS or both
  5. Personal first aid and needs
