Rescue Plan:

Christchurch Gondola evacuation plan in the event of a natural disarster like the Christchurch EQ's. This SAREX is for Christchurch ACR to evacuate the public from each strandard car on the cableway to the awaiting landsar/CD teams for evacuation to the safe point in the car park. (ICP) 

SAREX Plan:

-Local landsar to run/work in at IMT as per normal operations

- Civil Defence teams to run/work in at IMT as per normal operations
-An ACR adviser from the team to be at IMT to help
-ACR to do vertical work from gondola as per normal SOP for this rescue
-Landsar and Civil Defence to provide land based support and evacuation to safe point in car park from tower 5,6 and possible 7, approx 20 people to move.

Times (approx):

5.30pm - Meeting in car park for the relevant teams

  • Landsar Teams
  • Civil Defence teams
  • AREC teams (comms)
  • Police ICP
  • Gondola Operations

SAREX briefing and dynamic plan for the evening

START- Mark Foster to call John RCC 04 577 8030

6.00pm  Mock PLB activation (phone call to RCC in Wellington John Dickson 04 577 8030 watch leader) to simulate activation of the rescue plan if communications, cell towers, power and gearbox failure and the like are out for some reason, worst case senario.

6.10pm- Rescue coordination center (RCC) handover to police IMT for evacuation plan via police comms. 

6.15pm - Police SAR to initiate call out via the ACR Volunteer rescue system by calling 03 668 4239 option 5 ( code will be given on night )

6.30pm - ICP taskings established and hasty search started of cable way up to tower 7 to confirm gondola car numbers and members of the public strandard or any injuries present.

7.00pm -Team taskings underway

  • Alpine Cliff rescue- Cableways and gondola cars evacuation to ground crews
  • CD and Landsar- Ground crew movement for public taken from gondola cars by ACR
  • AREC- maintain comms to all parties via "liason channel (EXS39)"
  • Westpac Rescue - Airlift of injured patient from steep ground evac point (approx 7.30pm pickup) Location as per seperate pick up way point.

9.00pm   End- SAREX debrief

9.30pm Leave site
