Update from Matt at CHCH Sar team:
An update on this months training.
ACR will be there to do some vertical rope rescue training and a trip through Cave Stream, so please come prepared!
February Training - Saturday 23rd February - Cave Stream
Seeing we have had a bit of hot weather lately I thought we would start the year with a nice cooling trip through Cave Stream.
Alpine Cliff Rescue (ACR) will be showing us through the cave, and also demonstrating some of the things they get up to.
If you have not done this trip before, please wear clothing suitable for being in the water, such as thermals, sturdy footwear.
You will need a torch, preferably waterproof, and ensure it is attached to you via a lanyard. A headlamp is also a good idea, and again ensure this is also attached to you.
The water and be fairly fast and deep in places, so if you drop something, it is unlikely you will get it back, unless it is attached to you.
Bring a change of clothes for the trip home.
Please bring a helmet if you have one.
Bike helmet is ok. Better to hit a helmet against the cave rather than your head.
Headlamp + a spare if you have it. Plus spare batteries. Having your hand free makes the small climbs in the cave easier.
A BBQ lunch will be provided and I hope we should finish up mid afternoon.
This trip is dependant on the water flows, so may get postponed at the last minute, so please check your emails the day before (22nd)
Please let me know if you can attend
Location: Castle hill cave stream
Notes for the day from Matt at CHCH SAR team:
Cave Stream. We did it about 5-6 years ago and we had someone take us through. I believe they may have been CaveSAR but cannot remember their name.
I had a chat to Paul Beaver and he said you would be his first choice.
So, I am asking if you would be happy to guide us through. It's more to give the group an overview of what a cave rescue may involve, especially the ACR part.
possible slope raise or vertical practice.
