Pre Hospital Emergency Care is the highest First Aid level a civilian can achieve before entry into a professional medical career (Doctor, Nurse, Paramedic, etc)
The Modules of the course involve:
Precourse - Anatomy,physiology and medical terminology.
3 Day course agenda.
Advance Resuscitation, airway management and defibrillation. i.e.. OPAs, Suction Units, BVM, Oxygen administration.
Advance patient care, baseline recordings and monitoring. i.e. patient positioning, blood sugar monitoring, Blood pressures, tourniquets, pain relief
Moving a patient preparing for transport. i.e. splinting devices (KED, KTD, Scoop, Backboard, Traction, Basket stretcher) and patient handling.
Practical and theory assessment on the final day which requires a "Competent" to pass. Unit Standards 25411/25412/14473 are awarded on course completion.
Provide basic pre-hospital emergency care (NZQA 25412)
Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to:
– assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation;
– assess patients in an emergency situation;
– demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to manage patients in an emergency situation; and
– monitor patients and provide information in an emergency situation.
Demonstrate knowledge of and use an Automated External Defibrillator (NZQA 25411)
Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to:
– demonstrate knowledge of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use
– use an AED.
Move a patient in preparation for transportation (NZQA 14473)
Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to move a patient in preparation for transportation.
